Concerned about School funding???

Have you seen those 74 chairs sitting in front of the school district office?  They represent the 8 classified employees who lost their jobs last spring and the 66 certificated employees who received lay-off notices this month.  The cutbacks are due to the $14 million reduction in funding to Amador County in the current 3 year period.  This reduction will mean loss of classes/programs for our schools.

If you are concerned please contact your state legislators!

STAR Testing

The Standardized Testing and Reporting Program will take place April 20-23.  Freshmen, sophomores and juniors will take the STAR test.   Please be sure your students are in school and arrive on time!  Thank you!
Seniors are not required to take the STAR and will be on a different schedule during testing.  The hours for school for seniors on April 20, 21 & 23 are 12:55 to 3:10.  On April 22nd the hours will be 1:40 to 3:10.

Scheduling of 8th Graders

Parents of 8th graders at Jackson Junior High and Ione Junior High Schools will be receiving information regarding scheduling of classes for next fall. A letter detailing dates and events will be mailed on April 12th to all parents of incoming 8th graders.  Parent workshops to give information about the scheduling process, courses offered and to answer questions will be held on May 3rd at Ione Junior High and May 5th at Argonaut.  Parents can attend either workshop.  Both workshops will begin at 6:30.

Scheduling Classes
for the 2010-2011 school year

During April students will be scheduling their classes for next year.  By April 22nd counselors will have met with all students in class to explain the scheduling procedure and to hand out registration materials.  Those materials, requiring parent signatures, are due to the counseling office by Tuesday April 27th.

Academic Awards Night/Open House

Academic Awards Night/Open House will be held on Thursday May 6th.  The program will begin at 6:30 in the Multipurpose Room with awards for Top Ten and Academic Block  “A”.  Open House will begin at 7:00.

Scholarship/Awards Night

Our annual Scholarship/Awards Night will be held on Thursday May 13th beginning at 6:30 in the gym.  Seniors receiving scholarships and/or awards will be honored.

Freshmen Counseling Appointments

Counselors are meeting with freshmen individually to develop their four-year plan.  Each student will work with his/her counselor to develop the plan of courses he/she will take in the next three years.  Post high school options will also be discussed.  Upon completion of this meeting, a letter will be sent home to the parent with a copy of the plan attached.

College Admissions Testing for Juniors

Juniors who plan to make their applications to universities should have their admissions testing completed by the end of this school year.  All students planning to apply to universities should take the SAT Reasoning or the ACT.  Those planning to apply to a campus of the University of California should also take the SAT Subject Tests.  They should consult with their counselor to determine which two tests they should take for the SAT Subject Tests.  Although universities do not set the testing deadline for June, it is to the student’s benefit to complete testing early.  In doing so the student will have ample time to review their scores and, if desired, prepare to take those same tests in the fall to improve their scores.   All juniors received information about this during their individual counseling appointment.  The information included a handout with the tests required for CSU and UC and website information.

Progress Reports/ Semester Report Cards

Progress reports will be mailed home to all parents on April 30th.  The grades reported by the progress reports mark the half waypoint for the fourth quarter.
The end of the second semester is June 4th.  Report cards will be mailed home on June 11th.  Semester grades grant credits, determine athletic eligibility, and determine eligibility for a work permit after school begins in August.
If you have a question regarding your student’s grade in a particular class, please talk to or email his/her teacher for that class.

Finals Schedule

Because of the holiday on Monday May 31st, the finals schedule will be adjusted.  Final exams will be on Thursday May 27th and Tuesday-Thursday, June 1-3.  Students should plan to take their finals during this time period as well as return books and materials to their teachers.  June 4th is a minimum day. Graduation will be held on June 4th beginning at 8:00 on the football field.
